Homelessness Week 2025: Action Now in Our Communities

From 4–10 August, we proudly joined communities across Australia in recognising Homelessness Week 2025, under the impactful theme “Homelessness Action Now”, led by our friends at Homelessness Australia. This theme is a call to raise awareness of the impact of homelessness and the urgent need for solutions. At Ruah, we remain committed to advocating for change and taking meaningful action to support those experiencing homelessness.

Our Housing and Homelessness teams planned a week of engaging and supportive activities for our clients, reflecting our ongoing commitment to walking alongside people on their journey beyond crisis.

In Geraldton, the community came together for the Homelessness Expo 2025 – No Going Back. This event united local services and residents to challenge stereotypes, raise awareness, and showcase the collective efforts being made to support people experiencing homelessness.

In Perth, for the third year, we partnered once again with Uniting WA for the annual ‘Walk a Mile in their Shoes’ event from the Ruah Engagement Hub to the Tranby Engagement Hub – a journey many people experiencing homelessness make daily. The walk was followed by a free sausage sizzle and community market stalls at Tranby, creating a space for connection, conversation, and community spirit.

Throughout the week, our Ruah Engagement Hub was a hive of activity, offering a range of events designed to support and empower our clients. Highlights included the Aboriginal Justice Open Day ID Clinic, a one-stop shop for assistance with ID, fines, and driver’s license enquiries; a lively Flea Market Day featuring donated goods and essentials; and scrumptious daily lunches that brought people together in a warm, welcoming environment.

For over 65 years, Ruah has stood beside Western Australians impacted by homelessness, family and domestic violence, and mental health challenges. Our integrated approach ensures people are not only supported through crisis but are empowered to move beyond it.

Homelessness Week may be one week in the calendar, but for Ruah, “Action Now” is a daily commitment. We thank our staff, partners, and community members for standing with us and continuing to drive change.
