WA Rent Relief
What is the WA Rent Relief Program?
The WA Rent Relief Program is a WA Government-funded initiative designed to support vulnerable people who are struggling to maintain their private rental tenancies due to rising rent costs and broader cost-of-living pressures.
Delivered in partnership by Anglicare WA (lead agency) and Ruah Community Services, the program operates in Perth’s Southeast corridor and aims to prevent homelessness by helping tenants stay in their homes.
The program provides:
- One-off financial assistance for rent arrears and/or future rent payments.
- Future rent support is offered through a co-contribution model, where tenants contribute at least 50% of their weekly rent.
- Support to negotiate lease continuation with landlords.
- Direct rent payments to landlords, where agreements are made to sustain tenancies.
- Additional social support and advocacy for individuals experiencing housing stress.
Who Can Access the Program?
The WA Rent Relief Program is available to individuals and families who:
- Live in Western Australia.
- Rent privately under one of the following formal agreements:
- Residential Tenancy Agreement (Form 1AA)
- Standard form on-site home agreement
- Standard form site-only long-stay agreement
- Be experiencing rental stress, meaning:
- Your rent is more than 30% of your gross household income, and
- You have less than $3,000 in total savings.
- Be in rental arrears and at risk of eviction.
- Have not previously received a Rent Relief Program grant from any participating partner.
