Our long-time, valued corporate supporter, Brookfield Properties, has once again nominated Ruah as their charity of choice for their annual fundraising event. Sixteen teams of Brookfield Properties staff members, friends and One The Esplanade project partners participated in a competitive dart tournament at the Flight Club and raised over $24,000.
These generously donated funds will go towards the renovation of the kitchen facilities at Kambarang Place: our residential facility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women escaping domestic violence, homelessness, or life crisis.
Brookfield Properties is dedicated to making a difference in the community and has partnered with Ruah for the last three years. This recent donation brings the total of their fundraising efforts for Ruah to over $75,000.
Last year’s fundraising efforts resulted in an incredible $27,000 which has been put towards the purchase of a minivan, to enable us to respond quickly to women and children in crises, and to transport those staying at our refuges to medical and other essential appointments.
And in 2020, Brookfield Properties, along with One The Esplanade development team and their contractors, transformed the once barren backyard at Kambarang Place to a garden of healing featuring a ‘yarning circle’. The safe, and tranquil place provides a therapeutic area where residents can gather together, share stories, connect and heal.
“Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Brookfield Properties, its One The Esplanade development team and their contactors, the new backyard and yarning circle is a calming space to sit, to contemplate, to be heard, and to share their journey,” said Tanya Elson General Manager of Family and Domestic Violence.
We are incredibly grateful to Brookfield Properties who continually support and bring together their partners and contributors each year to raise funds to help women escaping domestic violence build new, safe and healthy lives.
