Ruah is delighted to have been appointed to provide lived experience peer support for the Royal Perth Hospital Safe Haven, due to commence operations early in 2021.
This new initiative is a first for WA and will provide alternatives for people attending an emergency department with mental health concerns that do not require intensive clinical interventions.
Working alongside emergency department clinicians, our peer workers will provide an after-hours support service to people experiencing mental health distress who need assistance, offering the opportunity to speak with people who have lived experience, and who can share what has worked and what options are available to them.
Ruah already has a strong peer support presence at Royal Perth Hospital through the Choices team who recently won the Innovation for Change Award at the 2020 WA Mental Health Awards.
