What is Safe Haven?
Safe Haven at Royal Perth Hospital is a service that offers early intervention mental health distress support, in a calm, gentle and quiet space . It provides face-to-face psychosocial assistance from:
- Peer workers with lived experience
- Clinical support staff
Safe Haven is designed to work alongside Emergency Departments, offering an after-hours alternative for people experiencing mental health distress. The model focuses on problem-solving support and connection to community services based on individual needs.
Who is Safe Haven for?
Safe Haven is open to anyone experiencing mental health distress with no formal diagnosis or appointment required.
It’s designed for individuals who may benefit from:
- A non-clinical, supportive environment
- Peer-led psychosocial support
- Connection to community services
Referrals are accepted from:
- The Emergency Department at Royal Perth Hospital
- Mental health community services
- Community walk-ins
How to access Safe Haven
Location: Royal Perth Hospital, Victoria Square, opposite St Mary’s Cathedral (look for the Safe Haven sign or ask the front desk)
Operating Hours: Friday to Sunday, 3:00pm – 7:45pm
You can access Safe Haven by:
- Walking in during operating hours
- Being referred via the Royal Perth Hospital ED
- Referral from community mental health services
