Early intervention residential center for young people experiencing thoughts of suicide.
Referrals
Young people experiencing suicidal thoughts can now access this non-medical, trauma-informed service without needing a mental health diagnosis. Referrals are open and can be made by anyone, including family, friends, health professionals, or the young person themselves. Each referral will be assessed to ensure the service meets the individual’s needs, and those facing suicidal ideation alongside alcohol or drug use, or psychosis, will be directed to specialised crisis support services.

What is The Luminos Project?
The Luminos Project is a peaceful recovery space for young people, supported by trained staff including a clinical psychologist, support coordinators, peer support workers with lived experience, and support counsellors. It focuses on helping young people build hope, resilience, and practical strategies for their future.
Developed by Ruah in partnership with Samaritans WA and The Kids Research Institute Australia (formally known as the Telethon Kids Institute), this innovative service aims to save lives and support up to 300 young people and their families annually. Located in Subiaco, The Luminos Project’s Sanctuary provides therapeutic support for young people aged 16-24 experiencing suicidal thoughts. Opened in October 2023, it offers early intervention with up to four nights’ stay for five individuals at a time, helping them before reaching a crisis point.
Inspired by Maytree UK’s successful 20-year model, The Luminos Project has been co-designed with global experts in youth suicide support, mental health services, and research, alongside input from young people with lived experience, ensuring it meets their needs effectively.
